A noblewoman has been pushed into putting on a festive hat, even though she is not in a festive mood. A nobleman likes her in the hat, compliments her for it and courts her. She plays along. When she comes home, she is deeply upset that she was not honest about the hat and who she is as a person.

"Once upon a time, there was a woman who knew that lies are the sure path to self-destruction."

The notion of lies

Lies are statements that are not in accordance with the truth.

White lies. Black lies. The responsibility for lying always rests solely with the person who does the lying, regardless of the situation and the circumstances. Lies can protect us and help us out in a pinch. Lying can come at a heavy cost in the form of the resulting breech of trust and other, far-reaching consequences.

Table of Content

People mainly lie when their self-esteem is low, and there is a conflict between certain inner and/or outer interests. Lies cover a wide spectrum, from harmless white lies, which may be forgivable, to severe, blatant lies, which may be entirely unforgivable and destroy someone’s life. Lies can help us gain time and preserve an illusion. Lies can lead to personal self-destruction and a loss of trust and respect – including the loss of self-respect. Lies breed lies, as one lie often leads to another with the purpose of maintaining a given illusion. Lies are bound to lead to additional distance in a relationship and are not conducive to self-love and a loving relationship.
