The princess is concerned when she sees the king and the queen arguing. She tells them how it affects her when they argue.
"Once upon a time, there was a woman who described how it affected her when there was something outside herself that she disliked."
The notion of staying with yourself
Instead of controlling others, manipulating them and attributing blame and guilt, we have another option: expressing how it affects us when there is something going on that we do not like.
By relying on the basic rules from the feedback chapter to deal with a conflict situation we encourage constructive approaches rather than guilt and destructiveness. By staying with ourselves, we explain how a given act or behaviour affects us, and that will often make the other person or persons want to stop what they are doing. If they are angry or upset in the moment, it may be difficult to achieve proper contact the first time we try, but if we stick with it, we will prevail.
