The notion of emotional intelligence

Emotional intelligence refers to our ability to identify our own and others’ emotions.

Classic intelligence tests measure purely cognitive skills. However, the American psychologist Howard Gardner has identified at least nine intelligences, including intrapersonal and interpersonal intelligences. The American psychologist Daniel Goleman later described these two as emotional intelligence and social intelligence. Goleman found that people with a high emotional intelligence quotient generally do much better in life, regardless of their level of intelligence in the other domains. Studies have shown that 90% of top-performers have a high emotional intelligence quotient, and that 67% of leadership competency depends on emotional intelligence.
